Gyros pita to good!

Sometimes I happen to generously abound with the quantities of meat I put on the grill;
and something, of course, advances ...

But everything can be recovered and reused:
with already cooked meat you can make a salad, a cold appetizer or, as in this case and with a skilled knife work, a tasty imitation of the Greek pita gyros!

Some gyros pita(γύρος πίτα) - true and original ones, not my pale imitation - I have already spoken in depth in this mine short article showing step by step the work of the cook (professional) who prepares them, from cutting meat to marinating and cooking to prepare the dish or pita to consume booklet, as street food.

In this case, however… that's how it went!

Ingredients:

leftovers of grilled meat
Origan
cinnamon
extra virgin olive oil
pita bread
tzatziki
sweet paprika
tomato
onion
pepper
salt and pepper

Quantities are at your discretion and, after all, you bring to the table what is there.

Here, skip all the preparatory phases, take the slices of meat left over from the grill of the day before and if they are made of thin strips that recall the pieces of meat that are cut away from the spit of the gyros.

A generous sprinkling of oregano never hurts, especially if the original grill had undergone a different spiciness.
I also add a little cinnamon.

After about ten minutes to flavor, you can begin to sauté the meat in a pan (or as here in a wok) over high heat and with a drizzle of oil.

The cooking, quite short since the meat is already cooked, must serve to heat it and make it crunchy; like the meat that is cut away from the spit of the gyros.

On the table they prepare the pita bread, heated in the oven or, if turned on, on the grill, and bowls with tzatziki (τζατζίκι), tomatoes with peppers and onions, all sliced, salt and pepper for those who want them and a nice jar of sweet paprika.

Usually raw peppers are used but ... they were left over in my parents' fridge sour peppers and those were used!

Now everyone can fill their own pita at will, some with little meat and some with a lot;
and seasoning then with vegetables, tzatziki and paprika if desired.

The gyros pita is ready: all that remains is to bite into it, enjoy your meal!

  • pita bread: or more simply Arabic bread.
  • Here we improvised to recycle already cooked leftover meat; if you want you can also prepare thin strips of meat, for example chicken, let it marinate well with the ingredients of the marinated for gyros and then toss in pan or wok, heat for getting a nice imitation of roasted meat from the grill and cut off from the spit!
