On holiday at high altitude ...

Gressoney: in high-altitude holiday

For a few days I was absent from my site: I was on vacation!
In a small and pleasant high-altitude hotel (2'450 m above sea level) above Gressoney, Val d'Aosta.

And for a few days I have not published new pages.
A little because the internet connection was not the fastest and a bit because I was content to have fun and, for once, to limit myself to eating the Aosta Valley specialties that were presented to me on the table.

In addition to the splendid cheeses such as fontina and the toma that everyone knows, every day a local specialty was offered, from the classic Valdostana to the soup with garlic and vegetables au gratin with fontina; from polenta concia with salmì di cervo or with stew or sausages to various vegetable creams.

All in complete peace and tranquility.

The hotel is in fact isolated in the middle of the slopes and, after the closure of the facilities, remains completely isolated, in the silence of the mountain.

However, in addition to the restaurant, there is a bar and a room where you can chat with other guests or play a game of cards. Or read, there or in the comfortable rooms all covered in wood.
Not that they are so many: ten in all, each with a bathroom, for a maximum receptivity of twenty-five places.

I said complete isolation but ... not entirely: it can happen that even at dinner groups arrive from the valley floor with skis and seal skins that stop for dinner. And then they return skiing in the sole light of the moon and of the lamps fixed to the helmets.

For those interested, this is the address:
Hotel of the bridge, Gressoney

The hotel can be reached and left on skis (or on foot, if you like) and from there you can reach the Salati Pass with the lifts to go down also on the slope of Alagna in Val Sesia.
Or reach from the valley floor of Gressoney the lifts that lead to Champoluc in Val d'Ayas.

And now, after this pause of laziness, I go back to the kitchen to dedicate myself to my passion!

NOTE:

  • I am allowed to come out of the topic of the site because this is a place that I love very much and where for over twenty years I have always had a good time; of skiing and rest.
  • For just over fifteen years thebridge hotel it is run by a young couple (Barbara and Claudio) who, in addition to having taken over the business started by their grandparents and continued by their parents, has completely renovated and renovated the place, continuing to improve it with great passion.
  • The hotel and the facilities are included in the Monterosasky area.
